Called “A legend in the making” by Sacramento News & Review, Monterey-born Jackie Greene has picked up an enviable amount of hype comparing him to such greats as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. The singer songwriter, who was discovered at an open mic night, is also a multi-instrumentalist who played most of the instruments on his rootsy, soulful official debut, Gone Wanderin’, a disc that brought him to national attention and won Greene a California Area Music Award for outstanding blues/roots album. The disc was also selected as a Rolling Stone top ten critics’ choice for 2002. A re-release of his first record, Rusty Nails, and another studio effort Sweet Somewhere Bound, have followed, along with a live-in-the-studio DVD.
Jackie has toured extensively, both headlining and as a support act for B.B. King, Susan Tedeschi, Taj Mahal, and Gomez. In 2006 he released his first proper album on the respected jazz label Verve. Called American Myth, the disc is a mix of blues, folk and rock produced by Steve Berlin and featuring bassist Davey Faragher (Cracker) and drummer Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello). Mostly, though, it’s Jackie’s show, and highlights the blazing fret work that has critics comparing the 26-year-old to Stevie Ray Vaughan, and the songwriting that hints more at Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and the R olling Stones.
