The wait is just about over--Jurassic 5's new album, its first since Power in Numbers in 2002, is about to drop any day now.
For fans of quality hip-hop, this is great news. Power in Numbers, the L.A. sextet's second album, was a diverse exercise in retro-rap, upbeat jams, some darker shades and even a bouncy pop number featuring alterna-diva Nelly Furtado. The group's first album Quality Control expanded Jurassic 5's audience beyond the hip-hop heads on the cutting edge to people ready for blazing ingenuity and inventiveness, powerful vocal harmonizing and amplified funk beats, and a throwback to an era when hip-hop meant having fun, stylish wordplay and willful braggadocio.
Often mentioned in the same breath as the Roots, De La Soul, Mos Def and Talib Kweli, Jurassic 5 has excelled in the live arena as well. The group performed in 2002 on the Smokin' Grooves Tour (featuring Outkast, Lauryn Hill and the Roots) while appearances with the Vans Warped Tour and even singer/ songwriter Fiona Apple have shown the diversity of both Jurassic 5 and its following.
On Sale Fri, March 10 @ 10am
