Event Description
The faux-fur outfits, the glittery arrangements, the wild-man vocal style; "flamboyant" is a word that gets used around Hawksley Workman a lot, and for good reason. But the Toronto musician/singer/songwriter/producer and general jack-of-all-trades is an artist first, always moving forward and taking chances, starting trends rather than following them yet always getting to the heart of the matter. His latest, Treeful of Starling, is his most honest and personal effort yet, one that retains the passion of previous works like Lover/Fighter and (Last Night We Were) The Delicious Wolves and songs like "Jealous of Your Cigarette" and "Anger as Beauty" yet explores both inner and outside worlds with remarkable tenderness and empathy.
A born performer, Workman has almost single-handedly transformed the image of Canadian rock as a staid, boring and (pardon the pun) workmanlike institution since his 1999 debut For Him and the Girls. Where others fall back on established grooves and sounds, Hawksley is always exploring, ever-inventive, and Treeful of Starling is no exception to this rule. Another tour promises to add to the growing Hawksley Mania sweeping both Canada and the ever-vigilant U.K., where glowing notices greet every new Hawksley release.
Don’t miss An Evening With Hawksley Workman live at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre on Monday, April 3rd and Tuesday, April 4th with special guests.
