Event Description
There’s a sense of comfort and joy found in tradition during uncertain times. These sentiments ring true for the seventh consecutive year of The Kessler Academy. This innovative, youth-focused training academy features an entirely musician-led string orchestra mentorship program, driven by the Vancouver-based Microcosmos Quartet, in proud partnership with Music on Main. This intergenerational collaboration, named for Vancouver’s beloved centenarian and philanthropist Mrs. Susan Kessler, is dedicated to keeping classical music vibrant and vital in the 21st century. It also builds agency and confidence in its participants, and creates opportunities for audiences to listen powerfully, together.
After a week-long mentorship intensive in mid-August, encompassing individual, sectional, and ensemble rehearsals in a safe, socially-distanced environment, these talented youth will perform great 20th- and 21st century works alongside the Microcosmos Quartet in a showcase concert. In the wake of a year marked profoundly by physical isolation, Music on Main is thrilled to invite a limited number of audience members to this safe, in-person event at the historic Vancouver Playhouse.
The Kessler Academy 2021 is the final celebration of Music on Main’s 15th season. We’re marking this special occasion with all tickets on sale for only $15! Join us in celebrating great music and listening together again.
Prefer not to attend in-person? We’ll also be sharing the performance digitally in the fall. We remain committed to creating safe, welcoming, and enriching experiences for audiences through both dynamic in-person events and curated digital recordings.
