Workshops 11am – 4:30pm

Free (style) Yourself
Kia Kadiri and Ndidi Cascade create a safe space and offer coaching to help you outrun your censor and find your own free flowing voice. Along the way they’ll dish out tons of practical tips for rhyming with a beat, including: timing, word play, and how to make friends with the phonetic alphabet.

How to Rock A Crowd
Whether you’re starting out or developing your style, let Mixmaster Muff school you. This DJ 101 workshop will cover essential DJ wisdoms, how-to: read your crowd, set an ambience, beat match, scratch and mix with multi-media. She’ll also touch on the business and etiquette of the club scene and basic equipment needs for starting out.

Dragging It Up With the Boyz
During this hour and bit workshop, local drag kings Ethan and Kyle will share all the drag info they can possibly pack in! Including: character building, song choice, proper binding techniques, packing (from the good old sock-cock to the fancy prosthetics), and last but not least, the essential, unspoken etiquette of the drag world.

Dissemination Is Not A Dirty Word!
Join two of Vancouver’s strongest women organizers and promoters, Rachel Flood and Adrienne Noble, for a workshop on organizing and spreading the word about your projects. Highlighting the benefits of combining art and activist movements, they’ll cover the basics of community organizing and everyday tips on how to effectively promote an event or series.

Money and Mindset
A conversation workshop where participants examine the beliefs and habits that often inhibit creative people from using their creativity and problem-solving abilities to solve their financial challenges. Through exercises, the participants will become aware of how their own reactions to decision making around money may be limiting their ability to thrive and expand the influence of their art.

Craft Jam
Bring your craft/art projects! In a society dominated by war and corporate interests, crafting in community can be a radical act. As you work, hear stories about various craft collectives; discuss their challenges, revolutionary impacts, and future potential. Also, be inspired and share tips for craft projects and craft groups. Facilitated by Sabrina Bonfonti.

The Confluence Event 4:30-6pm

Enjoy some eats and redefine creative community! Through activities and discussion, we will design the blueprint for a new on-line community forum for creative folks, theconfluence.org

Michelle Walker, creator of superdyke.com, has been commissioned for this project by the Working Arts Society and will be in house.
