"Unity in Diversity 2017"For decades, Victoria artist Phyllis Serota has invited painters into her studio to discuss and critique their work. Besides Phyllis, the present group comprises 7 women who joined between 5 and 20 years ago.
This group is unified by gender, age, and some aspects of background, but we also embrace our differences. Our choice of subject matter ranges from landscape, still-life, and figuration through to pure abstraction. Mentored by Phyllis, we derive much mutual support from each other. Working in this way enables us to risk individual experimentation and allows each of us to continue to evolve. This exhibition demonstrates how a tight-knit unified group can nevertheless exemplify great artistic diversity.
