Event Description
Vinyl Envy hosts Fraser Valley Indie bands The Sylvia Platters and Western Jaguar for the Victoria stop of their Vancouver Island tour.Western Jaguar (Ambient Indie Rock) - Mission, BC
Western Jaguar is the creation of multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Trainor. Based in Mission, British Columbia, Western Jaguar has attracted a strong collection of followers, both locally and abroad by incorporating a wide array of genres from dream pop to ambient indie rock within what Strange, Quiet, Loud calls, “strong and anthemic compositions.” These diverse soundscapes act as the sonic underbelly to eerie and whispering vocals that strive to connect with the listener. Trainor is joined by Kier-Christer Junos on guitar, Brent Webb on bass and AJ Buckley on drums to bring these melancholic and melodic pieces to life.

The Sylvia Platters (College Rock/Power Pop) - Abbotsford, BC
The Sylvia Platters are a four-piece college rock and power pop outfit hailing from all corners of BC's Fraser Valley. Their home-made, late-2015 debut record, Make Glad the Day, has drawn comparisons to Weezer, Belle and Sebastian, and The Smiths. Graypoint Owl writes that Make Glad the Day, "stays refreshing and fun across the breadth of its swiftly accelerating track list digging catchy hooks deep into the listener while displaying a distinctly geeky, literarily inclined wit." The album subsequently reached #32 on the earshot! college and community radio charts.
While the Platters are a relatively new project, its members have a long history together and playing music in other bands. That experience translates into a compelling live act that Glenn Ess of The Cascade calls, "vibrant and endlessly entertaining."
The Sylvia Platters are Luke Agawin, Simon Tressel, Nick Ubels and Tim Ubels.
