Event Description
Victoria’s premier women’s choir offers its annual Christmas concert filled with songs of light and joy. Laude’s trademark haunting medieval melodies combine with works from modern composers to inspire and elevate the soul. Contemporary Canadian pieces such as Sarah Quartel’s Snow Angel, Sheldon Rose’s Stars, and the Wyrd Sisters’ Warrior draw listeners’ hearts close to home, while a fierce tribute to Australian Aborigine freedom fighter Pemulway and Lauridsen’s classic favourite O Magnum Mysterium let the spirit roam. Ageless pieces including the Italian Adoramus Te and traditional Irish Jerusalem evoke a contemplative mood that transcends place and time. Now in its eighteenth year, Ensemble Laude is well-known for its excellence in a cappella performance and medieval repertoire. Director Elizabeth MacIsaac has led choral ensembles for over 25 years, in both Canada and France. Ms. MacIsaac also enjoys an international career as a vocalist specializing in early music and new commissions of contemporary music.
Ensemble Laude’s growing base of fans describe the music as unforgettable. “Perfect tonality, pitch...rich exotic harmonies…the romance and mystery of a medieval monastery. This, with the embellishment of authentic instruments of the time played with precision and passion create a heady, intoxicating potion of sound.” Come join Ensemble Laude for an unforgettable experience of “songs toward the light!”
Come fill your heart and soul with music!
"To hear Ensemble Laude is to be spirited away!"
