Event Description

Extravagant Signals: 7 Nights of Exhibition kicks off with a rock and roll art party, featuring two of Vancouver's most thoughtfully ass-kicking bands.

+ About Copilots +
"psychedelic, anthemic and fierce" - The Province

Copilots are a five piece rock band from Vancouver, BC.

Skye Brooks - guitar/vocals (Inhabitants, Fond of Tigers, Veda Hille, Ndidi Onukwulu)
Pete Schmitt - bass/vocals (Inhabitants, Josh Martinez),
Cole Schmidt - guitar (Pugs and Crows)
Karma Sohn - keys/vocals
D ylan Smith - drums.

These musicians backgrounds are equally rooted in creative/improvised music as well as the many facets of rock and roll. Their adventurous spirit reveals itself in memorable melodies, propulsive and seamless odd time rhythms, and dream-like lyricism that explores the subconscious, human nature and the power of wilderness. A restrained intensity simmers throughout their performances, at times boiling over into ecstatic abandon.

+ About Proud Animal +
"...absolutely bubbling with joy." - CBC

Barbara Adler - accordion/keys/vocals
Gavin Youngash - guitar/vocals
James Meger - bass
Skye Brooks - drums

Proud Animal mates harmony singing to fuzzed out bass-lines; glass-toned keyboards with grungy drum crashes; over-driven guitars with lyrics that count. At the heart of it all is the band’s love for the simplicity of a well-crafted song. Yet, despite their real respect for the classic songwriting of giants like Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon, the band is happy to defy any and all expectations of genre. They might still be dreaming, but to their ears, gutsy power rock and sensitive song craft are equally excellent tools for sharing a story.

“...an incisive, relevant and entertaining rock band.” Alex Macpherson, Verb Magazine (Saskatoon) "...

"...confident, mature and inventive..." Alex Varty, The Georgia Straight

+ About "Found in Translation" +

In his latest show, 'Found in Translation,' Oli K combines a variety of unusual media to explore the traditional subjects of landscapes, figures and faces from new angles. Synthesizing influences from Expressionism to Surrealism to folk art to commercial design, his art is playful and colourful, but often with an element of dark humour, and can be seen as a meditation on the relationship between genuine emotional affect and surface appeal, substance and decoration, beauty and kitsch...
