Event Description
Rio Bent. . . like a teenaged No Doubt after drinking the blood of Rancid . . .
- Shawn Conner, The Georgia Straight, June 24 2004
White Rock¹s K Carnage, allieX and Danny Hazard, better known as Rio Bent,
are a passionate new band paying their dues on the Vancouver music scene.
Fronted by Allie's fierce lead vocals and bass playing, Rio Bent is backed
by strong guitar licks and vocals from her charismatic brother Kurtis, while
drummer Danny hits hard creating awesome drive.
Rio Bent has been rocking Vancouver since November 2003. "Not only have we
been gigging locally this past year, we've also played tons of Vancouver
bars and events outside of White Rock, Surrey, Richmond and Delta. We've
opened for bands like Billy and the Lost Boys, and have made awesome
connections" adds Hazard.
Rio Bent is gigging weekly and quickly gaining more and more recognition.
Wild stage antics and occasional costumes add an unforgettable edge to their
shows, and leave audiences wanting more. Recently voted ³Best New Act in
Vancouver² by the 2004 Georgia Straight Readers Choice Music Awards, Rio
Bent was also recently awarded Best Band at Rock Stock & Skate South
Surrey¹s annual skateboard and music fest, and won recording time at Rock
Beach Studios.
Originally formed in early 2001, Rio Bent has experienced a few line up
changes over its four-year existence. "Before Hazard joined in 2003, I
wrote all of the original music for the band. With his arrival we not only
found ourselves a solid drummer but a second songwriter." says allieX. Rio
Bent currently has 27 original songs rehearsed and performance-ready, their
sounds ranging from driving rock ballads to kick-in-the-teeth punk with an
occasional acoustic song thrown in to keep things interesting.
Already busy in the studio, Rio Bent has completed 6 solid tracks with
another one in the works. Allie sums it up ³In the midst of recording,
writing and practicing new material every week, designing new t-shirts and
putting up a website, we've been playing a ton of shows. We¹re busy but we
wouldn't have it any other way. "
