Event Description

Late show:

** Wind Up Radio Sessions:
Montreal’s Wind Up Radio Sessions are a finely woven fabric that write and perform folk rock songs with charming arrangements and intimate lyrics. Original members Matt Lazenby, Marc Kiely and Dan Kiely released their debut album Red Brick House in 2010, to much critical acclaim. The group spent much of 2011 and early 2012 writing and recording new material, between their jam-space launderette and Montreal’s Digital Bird Studios. The result of this work is Bird Eyes, a nine song album which sees the group evolving their blend of compact arrangements, soaked with memorable hooks and melodies.
"Real impressive stuff" - Exclaim!

** Jasper Sloan Yip:
Jasper Sloan Yip’s career began in the summer of 2007 with the release of his solo debut, White Elephant. A bootstrapped project, White Elephant is honest, rough and imaginative. After the release, Jasper spent ten months traveling, and writing what became 2010’s Every Day and All at Once. This album’s first single, ‘Kiddo,’ began receiving frequent play on CBC Radio 3 just weeks after studio work had wrapped. His next single, ‘Slowly,’ spent 10 weeks on CBC Radio 3’s top 30, peaking at #4. Jasper’s final accomplishment in 2010 was having his song ‘Today’ appear in an episode of ABC’s Brothers and Sisters. Since then, Jasper and his band have toured Western Canada and showcased at festivals like BreakOut West, Canada Music Fest, the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, and Calgary’s Sled Island.

** The Never Surprise:
Introducing The Never Surprise, as they release their self-titled debut album. The duo (David Gaudet and Nick Eakins) is based in Vancouver BC, but are relatively new arrivals to Canada’s west coast. Their endeavour began in 2006, when Gaudet and Eakins started writing songs together in Ottawa. After a few short months, Eakins left Canada to pursue other career opportunities. David Gaudet continued on in Ottawa, releasing a critically acclaimed solo EP, including a few songs that were a result of the pair’s earliest collaborations. Gaudet’s solo project earned him a CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award in 2007. Fast forward to fall of 2008. Both Gaudet and Eakins find themselves relocated in Vancouver, and through a complex and serendipidous sequence of events, they wind up next door neighbors. Convinced of the strange powers of the universe, and itching to get back to playing music, they couldn’t pass up another opportunity to
