Event Description
. Saturday, March 20th IMU presents The MATINÉE, The GASTOWN ROYALS, SOMETHING PAISLEY & DESERT RADIO @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir . Doors 8pm / Cover $10 @ the doorThe MATINÉE is emerging as one of the West Coast's premier independent bands. Blending a passion for fine ale and finely crafted tunes, they offer a unique spin on a roots rock sound that is quickly attracting both national and international audiences. Writing songs that paint pictures of empty bottles and broken hearts, broken bottles and empty hearts, their collection of songs vividly comes to life. As they continue with their hard-nosed, DIY, blue collar work ethic, there is little doubt that this show is worth the price of admission. http://www.myspace.com/TheMatinee
The GASTOWN ROYALS - Some of Vancouver's hardest working & partying Bourbon Pub staff deliver straight up contagious alt-country with sweet ass vocals, mouth harp, banjo, ukulele, guitars and percussion. Some of the band's many interests and influences include whittling, spittoons, rocking chairs, straw hats, horse drawn carriages, Clint Eastwood, scrappin'n'cussin, cornbread, neckin' (with their best gals of course), barroom brawling, homemade jam, bathtub gin and everything olde timey! http://www.myspace.com/TheGastownRoyals
DESERT RADIO's original combination of Americana, Classic & Southern Rock is the soundtrack of a road trip to Juarez in a '68 Dodge where Merle Haggard, The Who and Elvis Costello all play on the mix tape stuck in the dashboard deck. A few years ago, old friends were looking for an excuse to hang out, drink lots of beer and write some great, country-flavoured rock 'n' roll, and one thing led to another and they soon found themselves playing shows and recording tracks. "February Day" (from their recently released debut album) became the number one ranked Americana genre song in the history of garageband.com, leading to features on Budweiser.com as well as NASCAR's use of the track in a Speed Channel video tribute to Dale Earnhardt Sr. that was broadcast throughout North America. http://www.myspace.com/DesertRadio
SOMETHING PAISLEY - Garage Country Rock from one of Vancouver's newest bands! http://www.myspace.com/SomethingPaisley
