Event Description
. Saturday, August 11th IMU presents CAPADE, LONDON SPY, MAKE THE LION & The NEW ACROYNMS @ The Lamplighter, 210 Abbott Street . Doors 9pm / $10CAPADE is a local rock band whose thick sound and dynamic live shows continually captivate an ever-growing audience. At six-foot-three, frontman Nikola Tucakov's stage presence is commanding, while the band's skilled reggae-vibed rock and funk elevates fans and catches them up in a whirl of engerized groove. Their original blend of propulsively funky rock'n'roll pop music has been compared favorably with early David Bowie. Come out and be caught for a spell as band members Siadat, Scharf and Spidel spin a tight grooving musical web with Nikola's vocal prowess drawing you irresistably into it. http://www.myspace.com/capade
LONDON SPY - This captivating, multi-talented, progressive indie-experimental band showcases instruments including bass, guitar, cello, trumpet & drums. The five person collective brings together various talents and abilities, linked together by one common goal: "to expose the vices and vanities of London and the nation to view," giving power back to the forces of good - or at least back to those who would rule wisely. http://www.myspace.com/londonspy
MAKE THE LION - This versatile band's engaging mix of post Radiohead prog-psychadelia and the raw energy of bands such as nirvana and sonic youth has recently been described by Nerve magazine as intelligent rock for the thinking soul, [&] one of Vancouvers more impressive young bands.Rounded off by a live performance that includes interactive visuals and a rotating cast of guest musicians playing electronics, brass, percussion and guitar, audiences are drawn into a unique and dynamic listening experience." http://www.makethelion.com
The NEW ACRONYMS - Influenced by industrial trip hop, British alternative and hardcore punk, the band plays diverse, dynamic alternative rock influenced by Radiohead, Muse, the Deftones, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, NIN, and Massive Attack, with elements of these bands unabashedly incorporated into their songs. Playing both cover songs and originals, The New Acronyms are intent on bringing a striking and innovative brand of rock music to Vancouver.
