Event Description
on sale fri 6/22 @ 10amWith three successful mixtapes and three chart-topping singles under his belt, Belly is ready to take on the world. For his debut double CD, THE REVOLUTION, the hip-hot artist recruited many of rap and R&B's finest to work alongside him, including Fabolous, the legendary Scarface, Kurupt, Nina Sky, Mario Winans, Massari and Monique. And Ginuwine guests on the first single, “Pressure,” which is already Top 10 in Canada & #1 on MuchMusic.
A prolific writer, Belly was able to express himself as a complete person with the album’s two-disc format. The People CD tackles songs about politics, poverty, sex and the street life while, on The System CD, Belly throws down tracks about feeling good and having a good time. And the entire double package carries the artist’s signature hard-hitting lyrics that spit the truth from a brother who’s been there.
Belly was born to Palestinian parents in the city of Jenin, where he was surrounded by war, violence, and atrocities no child should ever have to see. As a teen in Ottawa he channeled his tumultuous upbringing into music, creating the mixtapes that would make his reputation. With 2003’s Kool Kid mixtape, Belly became the first Canadian artist to create a mixtape to connect with the streets. With the 2004 and 2006 releases of the Kay Slay and DJ Big Mike mixtapes. They sold over 60,000 copies, combined, in North America. Belly also wrote three singles for Massari – “Be Easy”, “Rush The Floor” and “Smile for Me” that went Top Ten in Canada, and went on to worldwide success. This year, Belly toured Canada with Snoop and Ice Cube.
Pop/R&B vocalist George is one of Canada’s hottest up-and-coming talents. He has received three MuchMusic Video Award nominations, including People’s Choice, Favourite Canadian Artist. His 2006 debut Believe won the Canadian Radio Music Award for Best New Group or Solo Artist Dance/ Urban/Rhythmic 2007. Besides possessing a soulful voice and smooth dance moves, George is an accomplished musician who can play piano, guitar and harmonica. His first single, “Talk to Me”, introduced him as a compelling young artist to watch.
