Marke Andrews of the Vancouver Sun describes the quartet’s music as "running free through the trackless terrain of collective improvisation yet never sounding lost, aimless, or dispirited." Mark Corroto of All About Jazz writes, "they play jazz music like there is no more important mission in this world." Undoubtedly, the band has a chemistry that works and an organic sound that is highly original. The music emphasizes spontaneous improvisation within a wide range of structural devices.

Saxophonist Bruce Freedman has been an active member of Vancouver’s creative jazz scene since 1973. A strong and passionate improviser, he’s been influenced by Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and Jimmy Lyons. Apart from his leading his own bands like the Quartet and Chief Feature, Bruce has been a long time member of the NOW Orchestra and collaborated with artists like Claude Ranger and Paul Plimley. His recent trio CD, Enormous Moments with Clyde Reed and Dylan van der Schyff has been warmly received. Bassist Clyde Reed is also a veteran of the Vancouver jazz scene and has performed with a variety of groups. He is currently a member of ensembles led by saxophonist Rich Halley and trumpeter Rob Blakeslee.

Drummer Stan Taylor is a long time contributor to the local scene and works with bands like Primal Orbit, Jared Burrows Trio and the Bernie Addington Trio. Trombonist Rod Murray plays with Hugh Fraser’s VEJI, Hard Rubber Orchestra, NOW Orchestra and the Latin Jazz group Rumba Calzada.
