Jill Lebeck QuintetCD RELEASE PARTY
Jill Lebeck - piano, voice, Brad Turner - trumpet, Jon Bentley - saxes, Andre Lachance - bass, Paul Townsend - drums
Vancouver pianist/vocalist Jillian Lebeck is one of the most dynamic and exciting voices on the West Coast jazz scene. Her quartet / quintet features a delightful mix of originals, standards and some fresh takes on pop classics. In addition to her active schedule leading her own group performances, Jill is one of Vancouver's most sought after pianists playing with many of Vancouver's finest jazz groups. Jillian is a Berklee College of Music in Boston alumni and has won numerous awards and scholarships including the BMG Jazz Award, The Yamaha Rising Star Award and The Fraser McPherson scholarship for young instrumentalists. Jillian has performed at many Festivals and venues including The Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Vancouver East Cultural Centre, Mission Folk Festival, The Western Front, Dr. Sun Yat Sen Gardens, The Vancouver Sweet Basil Jazz Festival and The Cellar Restaurant / Jazz Club.
Jill is an incredibly talented musician with a great ear for melody and a ton of influences coming out of her as an improviser. Over the last five or six years, I have watched her branch out in a variety of ways. She has taken her natural ear for melody and lyricism on her instrument and translated it to voice. I have heard very few vocalists with the musical abilities, talents and potential of Jillian Lebeck.
Jill approaches vocals like that of a good horn player; very melodic, lyrical and appropriate. In addition, her approach to the piano is also very lyrical and technically advanced. You can hear influences ranging from Jarrett to Shirley Horn in her approach to music, which is refreshing in a scene dominated by over-players and over-singers.
I think it should be a given that Jill and her band would be a hip addition to your festival line-up."
