Event Description
. THIS FRIDAY! March 30th IMU presents DANNY ECHO, WELKIN, HINTERLAND, STEPHEN HEDLEY & MARNIE MAINS @ The RAILWAY CLUB, 579 Dunsmuir Street . Doors 9pm / $10DANNY ECHO - As a boy, Danny Echo longed to be in front of an audience playing his tennis racquet. He later discovered an electric guitar, amplifier and band are more effective at getting people's attention. After touring the UK with their previous band The Ryecatchers, Dan and Mark decided not only to keep the fire burning but to stoke it with the energy and excitement that all fans of great rock and roll embrace. Their British-inspired melodic rock is inspired by a wide range of music including the Flaming Lips, Dandy Warhols, Rolling Stones, Beck, The Beatles, Radiohead, The Kinks, The Cars and Syd Barrett. http://www.myspace.com/dannyecho
WELKIN - Magical, bleak and beautiful, the music of Welkin is fearless, feral, ethereal and epic in proportion. Welkin is the brainchild of singer, songwriter, producer, guitarist and pianist Geoff Birch. For inspiration, Birch writes his songs in a cabin in the Cascade Mountains of British Columbia. Welkin will be peforming all new songs as they prepare to record their 3rd full-length record. "Pink Floyd and Radiohead would be proud. Geoff Birch keeps it real for Welkin as a band truly ready to tour Canada to sold out shows." - Soulshine http://www.welkinband.com
HINTERLAND has been carving their own niche in the musical landscape with heavenly vocals and cascading walls of star-gazing guitar rock. Be sure to catch the band as they play songs from their recent CD release, "The Picture Plane", produced by Caleb Stull (Parlour Steps) and as they offer up new songs from their newest upcoming CD which is currently under production. Building on the evocative sound they established on their widely acclaimed atmospheric debut "Under the Waterline", the heavy bits are punchier, the hooks are sharper, and the ambient passages are dreamier. http://www.hinterland.bc.ca
STEPHEN HEDLEY - With an effortless, soulful vocal style and guitar playing that incorporates elements of jazz, blues, rock and folk, Stephen Hedley crafts melodic pop songs that have a timeless quality. http://www.stephenhedley.com
MARNIE MAINS - When her boyfriend refused to teach her to play guitar, Marnie Mains broke up with him and taught herself. Captivating audience with lyrics that bite and an angelic voice that soothes, her music falls somewhere between Mazzy Star and PJ Harvey, earning praise from Justin Timberlake's producer who described her as "mesmerizing, profound and a beautiful singer." http://www.marniemains.com
