Event Description
. Saturday, December 16th IMU & CiTR present DARKBLUEWORLD with special guests Marnie Mains & Tarran The Tailor @ The MEDIA CLUB, 695 Cambie . 8pm / $10DARKBLUEWORLD - With unusual rhythmic textures and an uncompromising approach to music, DarkBlueWorld constructs songs that are direct yet sophisticated in their lyrical and musical conception, speaking with courage and conviction. Often acerbic and darkly satirical, DarkBlueWorld's music is emotionally layered with subtly complex harmonic and rhythmic turns, combining artful simplicity, originality and inherent beauty. Their culturally engaged, profoundly melancholic songs intelligently communicate the complexities of human experience, "visceral and enraged and yet with tenderness and naked vulnerability." MARNIE MAINS - When her boyfriend refused to teach her to play guitar, Marnie Mains broke up with him and taught herself. Captivating audience with lyrics that bite and an angelic voice that soothes, her music falls somewhere between Mazzy Star and PJ Harvey, earning praise from Justin Timberlake's producer who described her as "mesmerizing, profound and a beautiful singer." http://www.marniemains.com
TARRAN THE TAILOR - With a banjo in one hand and a beatbox in the other, Tarran the Tailor saunters a slow tango through a forest of scrickety scratches, like a strange Arabian bluesman enticing a video game to dance: a dusty emotional barndance, a rusty rolling romance, guiding us all home with a broken headlight, singing us to sleep with the voices inside his head. In between songs, he'll meander through voices and characters that seem alien and familiar, in the space between this and that. His unique sound combine tin-can wailing, globulous bass, clickety clack lightswitch glitches, and a suitcase full of found sounds from around the world. http://www.tarran.ca
