Pacific Training Centre for the Blind

The Pacific Training Centre for the Blind is a Canadian grassroots charitable service organization founded and run by blind people. Started in 2011, the centre provides services and programs based on a positive and empowering no-limits philosophy of blindness. Currently the PTCB offers two programs serving the blind of British Columbia; our plans are to continue these courses into the future with an ultimate goal of opening an intensive, immersion-based residential training centre that offers the blind tools for their independence. The two programs currently offered are: Blind People in Charge: This community-based program, led by blind facilitators, offers classes twice per week in each Victoria and Nanaimo and provides lessons on the basics in Braille, travel skills, computer skills, cooking and home management, job-readiness, and, most importantly, a positive perspective on blindness. Right on the Dot: A 3-hour workshop introducing the public, educators, and the blind comm-unity to Braille, a thriving and relevant form of literacy integral to the success of the blind.
