The Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) SOCAN collects licence fees for the public and broadcast performances of copyright-protected musical works on behalf of our members � the Canadian composers, lyricists, songwriters and music publishers as well as members of our affiliated international societies. There are performing rights societies around the world who also administer the right to publicly perform or communicate to the public via telecommunication a copyright-protected musical work. As a performing rights society and a copyright collective, SOCAN distributes royalties to our members and to affiliated international societies based on the distribution rules approved by our Board of Directors.
