Cozy cafe on the corner of Broadway and Kingsway. Music on Thursdays until 10:45pm Cafe Society It might not be a new Ms. T's or even a reasonable facsimile of the Silvertone, but the Our Town Caf on Broadway at Kingsway is opening its stage to local musicians. The 50-seat licensed venue has attracted tango dancers and a string quartet since opening three months ago, and as of this week, local rocker Marq DeSouza's acoustic band takes up Saturday-night residency. "We hope to keep expanding," says owner/operator/booking agent Henry Lee, who also plays viola in the string quartet that appears on Friday nights. "Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays we show movies all day long, and we hope to bring in more and more artists as we grow." The caf, which closes most nights at 11, also serves food. "There's no cover; we just ask people to tip the musicians and buy food," Lee says. - from the Music Notes section of the Georgia Straight, January 22-04 ============= Open stage every Thursday Night.
