The H. R. MacMillan Planetarium

1100 Chestnut Street Vancouver BC
H.R. MacMillan Star Theatre Wrap-around panoramas, special projector/laser effects, high resolution video projection, internet access, elevated stage and a circular seating arrangement make this a truly unique multi-media facility. It is ideal for high-tech corporate shows, live performances, or product launches. The capacity of this theatre is 230. The Vancouver Planetarium also known as the H.R. Macmillan Space Centre is located by the Vancouver Museum in Kitsilano's Vanier Park and is a fun place to go on a rainy day. There are always several shows to see in the Planetarium; the observatory, where you can see planets yourself; laser shows; and the virtual simulator which is a sort of small virtual roller coaster. But be warned that some people are made ill by the movement of the seats and the rush of images. The planetarium shows are good for all ages and some are interactive, with an actor playing some important characters in the history of the study of space. Groundstation Canada plays interesting movies on various space-related topics. There is also an area full of space related gear and machinery, and a gift shop full of bizarre trinkets. It's difficult to do everything in an afternoon, so going in the morning or mid-day is best. That way you can decide what you feel most interested in doing and setting a schedule to catch all the shows
