About

Jenn Barrett

Singer/songwriter Jenn Barrett's voice is a powerful instrument - a true gift of beauty. After dedicating six years to classical voice training, during which she sang solo in festivals and in numerous choirs, she soon realized her home was in pop music. It was at this point she strapped on an acoustic guitar and started writing her own songs.

Jenn studied guitar with Kevin Kane (Grapes of Wrath) and Luke Doucet (Sarah McLachlan, Veal) and in 1997 recorded her first demo with local engineer Howard Redekopp. Recently, after a stint of singing backing vocals for Vancouver singer/songwriter Myk Gordon, Jenn was inspired to get out and do her thing.

While growing up Jenn was exposed to an array of music which contributed to her eclectic writing style. Big Band, Opera, Simon and Garfunkel , ABBA, Supertramp and Bowie were just a few of the influences that shaped Jenn's ear for beautiful melodies and lush harmonies. Vocally, Jenn has been likened to both Fiona Apple and Natalie Merchant. Musically, she writes soulful, roots-rock with hook-laden choruses that will stick with you for days.

Jenn's songs capture a unique blend of passion and empowerment. Her songs are stories: progressions of emotion and experience best summed up by her personal motto -Live, LoveLife! One listen to her song Celebrate and this becomes clear.

Jenn recently finished a professional 3-song demo and is busy working on her debut EP. Jenn's captivating presence and voice combined with her talented band made up of Niko Friesen (Motion Soundtrack, Adrienne Pierce) on drums, Craig McCaul (Craig Jax, Adrienne Pierce) on lead guitar and Mark Gibson on bass, creates a live show not to be missed.

Jenn's...voice is fabulous.
