Rosemary Galloway Quartet

"[Rosemary]...promotes innovation… being smart and swinging in an unpredictable bop-and-beyond way...” – The Jazz Report

The Rosemary Galloway Quartet CD, Live at the Montreal Bistro, was named one of the ten best Canadian Jazz CD’s of 2006 by Geoff Chapman, Toronto Star. This new project by Toronto-based bassist/composer Rosemary Galloway includes some of the finest musicians in the country: Pat LaBarbera saxophones, Gary Williamson piano and Terry Clarke drums. The music is a mix of standards arranged by band members or rewritten to create new tunes on familiar structures, as well as original material. The musical styles highlight a cross-section of influences, including Latin and Carribean grooves and contemporary harmonic structures. Galloway has led her own groups (Velvet Glove, Swing Sisters) and worked with Lorrain Desmarais, Jane Bunnett, Ingrid Jensen and Doc Cheatham.

Pat LaBarbera is internationally known for his work with the Buddy Rich Big Band and Elvin Jones’ Jazz Machine. He also performed with the big bands of Count Basie, Woody Herman, and Louie Bellson. He has worked and recorded with musicians such as Chet Baker, McCoy Tyner and Dizzy Gillespie.

Terry Clarke is one of Canada’s most in demand jazz musicians. He travels to Europe, the U.S. and Japan regularly with guitarist Jim Hall, and most recently was invited to record with Nancy Wilson. Terry is a founding member of Canada’s Boss Brass. He spent many years in Oscar Peterson’s trio and has worked with a who’s who of Canadian and International jazz musicians.
