About

The Legendary Downchild Blues Band

The Legendary Downchild Blues Band…when four of Canada’s most distinguished musical figures sat down to compile a list of more than 125 “essential” Canadian tunes they picked only one blues tune. I’ve Got Everything I Need (Almost), written by jump blues band Downchild’s leader Donnie Walsh back in 1973. Since then, the band has continued to churn out hit albums and has a list of awards and accolades that includes two Juno nominations and one award, two Jazz Report Awards and 18 Maple Blues Awards. In 1992, CBC Radio Canada presented Donnie Walsh with the Great Canadian Blues Award in recognition of a lifetime contribution to the blues in Canada. Walsh’s powerful guitar and harmonica work is complemented by veteran Downchild singer and harmonica player Chuck Jackson. Pat Carey is the band’s new tenor sax man and Michael Fonfara – who was a member of the early American super-rock group Rhinoceros – plays keyboards. Gary Kendall on bass and the most recent Downchild member, drummer Mike Fitzpatrick, forms the solid rhythm section on which the bands live show is built. Don’t miss the Legendary Downchild Blues Band!
