About

Cody Allen James & Good Co.

since 2023
Good Co. is an Alt-Country band from Kingston, Ontario. What began as a solo songwriting project by Cody Allen James has evolved into a bonafide country rock outfit founded on a simple principle: write good songs and play them well. While they, of course, draw from the masters of the craft: Bob Dylan, John Prine, Gram Parsons, and The Rolling Stones, Good Co. has also been unavoidably influenced by more contemporary artists such as Neutral Milk Hotel, Deer Tick, and Demon’s Claws to name a few.

The core creative force behind Good Company comes from brothers, and lifelong songwriting partners, Cody Allen James (guitar/vocal) and Coyote Williams (bass/vocal). Growing up in rural Ontario, raised on roots country and rock n’ roll, James and Williams have developed and meticulously honed an intuitive sense for songwriting, with an unshakable focus on quality lyrics, memorable melodies, and air-tight song structure.

Seeking to form a solid four-piece core, Cody reached out to noted local drummer, Dan Killen. Killen had the well-earned reputation of a metronomic professional, having played with many prominent local acts from his early teens onward. The fit was natural and immediate.

Williams and James found lead guitarist, Mike Rapkins, serendipitously by catching him performing in his rock band, The Roughs. They knew immediately they must have him. A quick conversation over a beer, and Mike was in straight away. The fit was again natural and immediate.

Quick to work, the band began putting songs out like an assembly line and began playing locally as often as possible. They toured Ontario in January 2023 and then the East Coast in June 2023, followed by a smattering of festivals, short runs, and one-offs. Good Co. is currently slated to record their debut full-length record in January 2024.
