Vijay Iyer Quartet

Rated one of "today's most important pianists" by The New Yorker, American-born Vijay Iyer is a self-taught marvel who began making music at age three. He was playing jazz in his teens, but went on to get a Masters degree in physics at 22 and then a PhD in music and cognitive science. When he finally turned his attention to music full time, he proved to be equally eclectic and impressive, thanks to a unique compositional and playing approach that was radical, highly rhythmic, and sinuously complex. Soon gigging with everyone from Steve Coleman’s Five Elements and avant-garde pioneer Roscoe Mitchell to hip-hop theatre artist Will Power and revolutionary poet Amiri Baraka, Iyer toured the festival circuit all over the world.
