About

Jason Collett

Raised in Toronto, this singer performed in and around Toronto, but it was his association with Andrew Cash that garnered him praise and critical acclaim. After performing in the Andrew Cash Band in the late '80s and early '90s, Collett joined Ursula, an alternative rock spin-off of Cash's previous group. The band toured Canada and opened up for acts such as the Odds. But after several years in the music business, Collett decided to give the profession up for a few years. By the mid-'90s, though, the music germ was still in his system. A former short-order cook as a teenager, Collett teamed up with Andrew Cash and Hawksley Workman for an alternative country outfit entitled Bird. The group's album, Chrome Reflection, was rich in pop, rock and country. Collett also began hosting a series of singer/songwriter performances which featured members of Blue Rodeo, 54-40, and Skydiggers, among others.
In 2001, Collett released his debut album, Bitter Beauty, and continued hosting the Flood Family Songwriting Review, which toured throughout Ontario. He has also been featured on several compilations, including a benefit for GASCD, a group dedicated to help ease legal fees for social activists and protesters. In 2001, Collett launched "Radio Monday's", a weekly Toronto showcase designed for both emerging and established artists to test out new songs to an open-minded audience. The night became a major hit as songwriters from across the country visited Toronto to join in on the fun.
2003 marks the official "second-coming" of Jason Collett, and he's already off to a red-hot start. As guitarist and bass player for Toronto's Broken Social Scene, Jason's recently picked up a Juno award when the band won for "Best Alternative Album". Early feedback on Jason's upcoming album " Motor Motel Love Songs" is also growing. Now that Jason's kids are old enough to put themselves to bed, he can once again focus on his own music...which is a great thing for Collett, and everyone else for that matter.
Arts & Crafts is very proud to release "Motel Motor Love Songs", the new album from one of Canada's most talented singer-songwriters, Jason Collett. Jason's new album will be in stores nationwide on May 20th, 2003.
