ZANUSSI FIVE

Nordic writer Tomas Lauvaland Pettersen declares, “Zanussi Five recalls John Zorn at his best, Ornette Coleman at his most intense or Atomic at its wildest. Outstanding.” Led by Per Zanussi (Jon Christensen, Sternklang), one of the most exciting young bass players on the Norwegian jazz scene, this fabulous quintet also features three of the hottest sax players in Norway—Kjetil Møster tenor sax, Rolf Erik Nystrom alto sax, and Eirik Hegdal baritone sax. Along with drummer Per Oddvar Johansen, the group brilliantly showcases the vivid, intricate, and wide-ranging compositions of its leader. On a recently released self-titled debut CD (Moserobie), Zanussi Five presents a set of expressionistic tunes full of swinging grooves, energetic free jazz, and stunningly beautiful melodies.
