About
David Ward
David Ward delivers a delicious musical gumbo fusing together folk, jazz, blues, theatre, and pure imaginative wit. Seemingly unencumbered by the usual conventions, there’s a surprise around every corner. His music has been labeled a “rare, bold foray into melodic experimentation”, both “stunning and poetic”. “Think Zappa meets James Brown meets Tom Waits meets Stan Getz meets Marvin Gaye. Prepare to be dazzled, amazed, moved and amused.” John P. McLaughlin of The Province. After releasing his Debut solo album in 2006, Never Meant to Know, David spent time touring Western Canada extensively for nearly two years. In the fall of 2007, David traveled to Ghana, West Africa to study traditional drumming, song and dance under the tutelage of the Kusun Ensemble.
February of 2008, David released Unstruck Note with his band Loose Change Trio and producer Adam Fulton (Paul McCartney, Teri Clark). With its release Rootstime Radio in the Netherlands hailed the trio as a force that “truly belongs in the ranks of the most important Canadian bands of the moment.” In the fall of the same year, David and his band completed a 25 date cross Canada tour with great success and support from both CBC Radio 3, 2 and 1 and numerous other radio/television shows across the country and in Europe.
David spent the fall of 2008 – winter of 2009 in Toronto. In his tenure, he held a weekly residency at the historic, long-standing bastion of arts & culture, the Cameron House, as well as at Not My Dog and, C’est What? – a venue that has been home to world renowned Canadian and international performers including Feist, Wilco and Jeff Buckley.
In the summer of 2009, David embarked on a 20 date, solo Eastern Canada tour. His live show is “A perfect example of how musicians are not just there to play music, but to entertain as well.” Ron Cheng – ronatron.net independent reviews
David has finished cutting together a music/documentary film for his song, “Emanuel”, off the album Unstruck Note, that follows participants of a bottle drive that raised money for youth living with cancer. The video is set for release in the Spring of 2009. For information on David’s CHANGE visit the CHANGE section of this website.
David is set to release a new record in the early summer of 2009 followed by a tour of the UK and Europe.
