About

the Void

since circa 2000
Fifteen years ago in the quiet setting of Duncan, BC, five classmates had no idea that their childhood friendships would spark years of musical collaboration. In various combinations of punk and folk trios, they played various venues around Vancouver Island before deciding to come together as one band in 2001, initially dubbed Infinitism and later changing their name to The Void.

Although showing early influences of melodic metal, the band has since developed into their own unique brand of hard cello-rock with a dose of high-energy punk - and has evoked comparisons to Queens of the Stoned Age, System of a Down, Finger Eleven, Foo Fighters and Green Day.

In 2004, it was time to exchange small towns for bigger things and the band relocated to Vancouver. The Void quickly gathered a local following, performing at key local venues like the Piccadilly, the Buffalo Club, Richards on Richards and the Railway and winning a local Battle of the Bands contest.

Two Western Canadian tours later, the requests hadn’t stopped for a full-length album and the band began recording at the Factory in April 2006, completing their mix sessions at Hipposonic. After placing in the finals for last year’s Emergenza Festival, there is no doubt that 2007 will be the year of The Void, with plans to perform at New Music West, enter the Seeds Battle of the Bands competition and appear on their first US tour. Watch for their debut, “Broken Bottles & Empty Promises” - released this coming June.
