About
Aaron Booth
Aaron's musical path began in Calgary, Canada in the early nineties. It was there he explored many avenues of sound. He cut his teeth in the rock'n'roll school of Bobby McAlister & the Telstars, learning the low art of retro rock bass playing and the high art of beer tasting; he conducted multi-media experiments with post-rock group, Shecky Form, at the New Gallery's now infamous "Space for Space" performance art events and in his spare time he stayed home with a notebook full of songs and a 4-track.In the end it was the demise of Shecky Form and the rise of the 4-track interest that lead Aaron away from Calgary. He awoke one morning with the idea to release a selection of pieces from his home recording catalogue. This debut solo album, (Tune Up, 1999) with an initial pressing of thirty copies originally intended for family and friends began to take on a life of its own once it entered into the world, finding its way onto mix tapes and local radio shows. To keep up with the rising demand for copies, a proper pressing of the album was made and Aaron began performing solo shows around Canada for the first time. The release of Tune Up was like throwing a kite into the wind that Aaron has since been running to keep up with.
Now based in Toronto, its three years later and Aaron has caught the touring bug. Perhaps it was the high school career in amateur rally racing or the delivery driving job that did it to him Aaron really loves being on the road. Hes crossed Canada several times sharing stages with Richard Buckner, John Frusciante, The Buttless Chaps, Julie Doiron and Carolyn Mark. Now he is about to embark upon the biggest tour to date performing in Canadian cities from sea to shining sea to promote his new album, Transparent.
Transparent was recorded last fall by Ottawa producer Dave Draves, who is known for his work with Wooden Stars, Snailhouse and Kathleen Edwards. Draves and AB worked on improving their studio tans and caffeine addictions for two weeks, emerging with a full length album of spacey roots-pop tunes. Aaron played most of the instruments but help also came from Draves and the Snailhouse clan. The CD release party is June 27th at Holy Joes, T.O. A national tour is to follow through the summer. Stay tuned!
