About
The Carlines
since circa 2013
Victoria's indie-rock band The Carlines independently released their debut EP 'Still The Sun Will Rise' in early 2014, kickstarting an exciting year that proved to be both fruitful and successful. They continued the year by performing dozens of shows, touring to Alberta on three separate occasions, placing a 'Band of the Mont' feature on Victoria's the Zone 91.3, and charted on the stations yearly playlist. Having completed their first EP, The Carlines are heading into the studio to finish their full-length album in 2015 while continuing to perform throughout Western Canada. The Carlines' music can best be described as a mix of lyrical, melodic vocals and crafty guitar riffs over a blend of rootsy-groovy rhythms. “Still The Sun Will Rise” showcases storytelling songwriting with heartfelt songs that blend smart modern pop with indie rock, featuring 'Heart' as the emotional powerful single highlighting the bands many strengths. Their live performance has been described as a playful style that disarms and draws the audience into a captivating musical experience.
“The music of the Carlines is a sparkling sort of soulful folk-pop that gently strums at your heart strings, even as it sets your toes a-tapping and your head a- bobbing.” - Grant Stovel, CKUA Radio Network
“So positive and full of love!” - Tamara Stanners, The Peak 102.7
“I adore this song (Heart)” - Jon Williams, The Zone 91.3
Sjoerd Meyer, Esme John, Mitch Farley and David Parfait make-up the Carlines, all of whom have all played with or alongside Georgia Murray (Liinks), Mike Edel, Jordan Klassen and Chris Ho in venues across Canada and the U.S. As individuals they have played in front of thousands, rode the CBC’s festival express-like “Tracks on Tracks” train, and been included in Vancouver’s Peak Performance Project.
