About

The Knackers

since circa 2009
The Knackers are a five-piece Celtic/folk/rock ensemble consisting of guitars, fiddle, bass, drums and an array of Celtic instruments. The band enjoys playing upbeat, hard hitting, socially and emotionally conscious music. The Knackers music combines Irish/Scottish and Canadian Traditional influences with strong, original songs and stories from the colorful culture and history of Canadian living. The songs and the words tell stories of the working class, the hard drinking, of down and out hobo logic, of sticking it to “the man” with a gaze from the gutter, of lost love and new hopes and which is all at once dark and full of humour and romance. The Knackers have performed many successful live shows, including a set at a sold out festival at Vancouver’s The Center for the Performing Arts. Their live show is vibrant and entertaining; full of heart it moves from lilting ballads to rowdy Celtic grooves, getting their audience up and dancing every time. The Knackers aspire to preserve traditional music and inspire new, young and old listeners to get up and forget their troubles, if just for one song.

Their influences include The Pogues, Shane McGowan and The Popes, The Dropkick Murphy’s, The Mahones, the Dubliners, Stomping Tom Connors, The Dreadnoughts, Steve Earl, Christy Moore, Sinead O’Connor, Leonard Cohen, Stan Rogers to name a few.
