About

Flippin' Jiggers

Flippin' Jiggers came into existence in the spring of 2000. They were a creation of old
friendships and a desire for a new musical direction. What merely began as an agreement to jam together every once in a while quickly transformed into a collection of interesting songs and positive writing ventures.

Flippin' Jiggers are James Minchau (lead vocals & accordion), Brad Dirks (drums), Trevor Saunders (guitar, mandolin & vocals), and Jim Brown (bass & vocals). The music is created in a humble but comfortable practice environment where simple ideas and phrases are built into energetic, entertaining and thought-provoking songs. The music is born of the jamming process, as opposed to being created by any one individual. An emphasis is always placed on sounding original, but that is the only restriction placed on the song writing style and process.

Flippin' Jiggers had by far their most successful year on every front in 2002. Feeding their unquenchable desire to perform live in any situation, they shared many new and exciting on-stage experiences. Among the highlights were making it to the finals of Playdium Band Wars, experiencing the thrill of playing for thousands at Warped Tour at Thunderbird Stadium, entertaining both young and old at an outdoor Canada Day celebration, and doing an intimate and interactive evening where the band re-wrote their songs acoustically, and wowed even their most die-hard fans.

Media exposure also grew with regular articles in many newspaper publications, including a full page spread in Vancouver’s famous Georgia Straight. Numerous appearances on local radio and an interview on BCTV were also memorable and beneficial for the band.

The main focus of Flippin' Jiggers is, and will always be, entertaining everyone at each performance with innovative music and a spontaneous, high-energy stage show. The participation of the audience is a big part of the show, and no one goes away disappointed. Flippin' Jiggers also released their first full-length CD entitled Sea Hare in the later part of 2002. The CD is a collection of songs they created in their first year and a half together, and the recording process was both challenging and rewarding, with sales already topping 300 albums.

The band recently produced their own event called “An Evening with Flippin’ Jiggers’, which took place at The White Rock Theatre Playhouse on Saturday, June 28th, 2003. The band also performed at 2003 Canada Day Celebrations in both Langley and Surrey on June 30th and July 1st. Up-coming events include “Arts Alive” in Langley on Saturday, August 16th, and “Community Living Days Celebration” on Saturday, September 27th at Douglas Park in Langley. Currently, the band is writing new music and putting together a schedule for the remainder of 2003, and early 2004. The band will be focusing on music festivals and self-produced events for the foreseeable future.
