Ben Everyman

Ben Everyman, true to his name, makes music that cavorts carelessly across folk, blues, country, and rap, dripping with cutting wit and satirical humour. Some say he sounds like Beck, and Bob Dylan, writing absurdist poems about Johnny Cash in his mother’s basement, and he has been known to make people laugh and cry, often at the same time. Ben usually performs as a one-and-a-half-man-band, playing foot-powered drums, harmonica, and guitar, and accompanied by a mannequin torso on tambourine. Frequently likened to offbeat actors, musicians, and long-lost friends from forgotten hometowns, he’s like your favourite t-shirt: familiar and rumpled, and lovable no matter how tattered and worn he gets. Produced by Winton Hauschild (Hannah Georgas, Hey Ocean), his third full-length album, Subourbon, will be released in September, 2014. His previous releases, Deprecado and Iconoplastic, received glowing national press, with Ben dubbed “a virtual fountain of ideas” by The Georgia Straight, and “witty, scruffy and irreverent” by Exclaim, as well as charting top-ten on college radio across Western Canada.
