About
The John Benders
thejohnbenders are a Seattle-based band comprised of four longtime friends dedicated to writing and performing music that is heavy and intense yet retains a sincere, emotional center. The collaborative spirit of the band affords them the opportunity to be creating continually.Shortly after their formation in early 2003, thejohnbenders recorded the song "4-Count Phil" at Shortdog Productions in Seattle, WA with the great Tony Dallas Reed (Treepeople, Goodbye Harry, 12:30 Dreamtime) acting as producer. After playing some live shows and receiving an enormous amount of airplay on local college radio stations, thejohnbenders booked the weekend of October 11-12, 2003 to record four more songs with Mr. Reed to release as their 5-Song EP. While "4-Count Phil" was recorded digitally in a single day, these four songs were recorded in two days on analog equipment for $500 at Temple Sound in Port Orchard, WA.
thejohnbenders' intention is to bring emotion and honesty back to life in music. That is what the first single "4-Count Phil" is all about. Call it a diatribe, a tirade, it doesn't matter; it just expresses the desperation that everyone should be feeling when the subject of our lackluster music scene comes up. With the help of their friends in the local music scene they will bring it back to life. The band is currently gearing up to record a full-length album to be followed by extensive touring.
