The Heavils

Label: Metal Blade
Hailing from Rockford, IL The Heavils have created not only a remarkably unique sound but also some pretty exceptional guitars and instruments. It all started back in 1987 when Mossy and Brian Carter met after high school both playing in different bands at the time. Brian's band Sarkoma went on to sign with Red Light records while Mossy eventually moved to Canada and played with a band called Caustic Thought who also included Byron Stroud (Strapping Young Lad). About 2 years ago Mossy met up with Brian who was playing in a band and had recently played saxophone for a funk band. Mossy told Brian he was looking to start up a project and wanted him to sing and have his voice heard again and The Heavils was born. The two started jamming and shared a space with a musician who had this crazy guitar on the wall with missing strings and no frets. As soon as Mossy plugged it in they knew it was special. It made noises like no other guitar and soon Brian had one, then another, and then another! Things moved quickly after that and they decided that they did not need a bass player because the instruments had bass and guitar strings, but only a total of 5 strings. Playing out for about 4 months the drummer decided to leave and in stepped Milo who was playing drums in a band called Bill at the time. Milo was the first drummer to try out and earned the spot immediately due to his incredible talent as a drummer. The band played on for a couple of months as a three-piece band building a strong following and having a reputation for an anything goes, over the top show. They decided to get a bass player after all and Milo knew the perfect person to step in. The band got in touch with Corey who had played in the band Bill that Milo used to be a part of and The Heavils was now complete. After a couple months the band was playing even more shows and traveling even greater distances than before. The band was then nominated for a RAMI (Rockford's music awards) for best new act and played at the awards show. It's not enough that The Heavils have established themselves as being an original hard-hitting band but Brian Carter is also starting to get notice for his Frankenstein creations that he likes to call The Toilet, The Clitar, Acoustic Statue, The Dragonbox, Tomicon, Motorguitar, Guitube, and The Bolt. Brian has built about 10 instruments this year using toilet seats, PVC tubes, and out of wood. These creations are a major part of the Heavils sound that no one else has yet to duplicate. Half bass half guitar sometimes they sound like bees and sometimes Motorcycles. Not only are these guitars totally original they only have 5-strings and are fretless! With Brian creating and making the bands guitars and other instruments, The Heavils are definitely going to make their mark in music history with the release of their debut album on Metal Blade Records due out early to mid 2003. So prepare yourself to join the Heavilution!!!! What is the Heavilution you say… well the Heavilution is about 4 people who have been influenced by every kind of music they have heard or seen at shows. This is why it makes it so hard to put The Heavils into any one category. For the band, it's all about having fun on stage with the crowd & each other, good vibes for all who listen, there is something for everyone, love it or hate you will never forget it!
