About

Niska Napoleon

Although only 22 years old, Niska has been performing for more than a decade. Recording her first original song at the early age of 10, she knew what she was meant to do. Growing up in a musical family encouraged Niska to grow as a musician and pursue her dream. Excelling in voice and guitar, Niska is able to capture an audience with nothing more than a microphone. Driven by the desire to succeed in the music business and deliver strong, original material, it is hard not to notice this aspiring musician who has performed throughout northern and western Canada. Touring with hip-hop groups as a young girl only fed her hunger for independence and at 16 she began her journey to find her own “original” sound. Following in the footsteps of her father and established singer-songwriter Art Napoleon, she wanted to set herself apart from the family name and began performing as Niska, an unknown in the business waiting to break out on her own. Recently digging her roots on Vancouver Island opened doors for new opportunities such as guest appearances on the New VI’s “Breakfast Television,” “The New Canoe” and opening for acts like Buffy St. Marie. Influenced by musicians such as Sheryl Crow, Alicia Keys and Lauryn Hill her music is best described as contemporary rock/folk with the ability to swing to hip-hop and R&B stylings. Drawing crowds at Open Mic nights throughout Victoria recently led her to headlining her first show at Victoria’s acclaimed Herman’s Jazz Club. Niska performed with an all-star five-piece band and with the help of local fans the show was completely sold out. Due to Niska’s raw talent and intriguing presence it is clear that this young woman has a bright future ahead of her.
