“Nathan Carroll...the multitalented composer and performer.”
- Michael Thibault, Winnipeg Free Press (1999)

Nathan Carroll is an emerging musical tour-de-force from Edmonton, Alberta. Involved in various musical endeavours from an early age, Nathan has developed into a very capable and well-received musician, both locally and throughout the country.

Hailing originally from Winnipeg, Nathan has been involved in many musical projects, as a solo artist as well as with local Winnipeg bands “Dawn Treader” and “Senor Feo”. As well, he composed the original score and lyrics for a full-length musical production that ran in the spring of 1999, receiving rave reviews. This project, among others, established Nathan as one of Winnipeg’s sharpest and most creative burgeoning talents.

Since relocating to Edmonton, Carroll has earned a bachelor’s degree in music, majoring in guitar and vocal performance. During this time, he has honed his skills as both a musician and songwriter, performing frequently at venues all around the Edmonton area, as well as touring Eastern and Western Canada.

Currently, Nathan works as a musician and guitar instructor in Edmonton. Well-known among the musical community, he is a mainstay at many of the music venues around town, as well as a key collaborator in various local musical projects.

His debut record, The Tie-In To Dyin’, was released in early 2007 to rave reviews and sold-out shows. Concert goers are regularly being treated to electrifying performances by Nathan and his band, leaving the shows with regular comments on the intoxicatingly compelling songs and Carroll’s dynamic stage presence.

There are a variety of song styles and timbres on The Tie-In To Dyin’ with music and lyrics for 11 of the songs written by Nathan Carroll and arranged by himself and producer (local Edmonton musician) Brock Tyler.
Before I‘m Gone is a compassionate song written as a tribute to Nathan’s grandfather who is quickly entering the advanced stages of Alzheimers disease. Pallbearers Song is a witty look at Carroll’s own funeral day and the people that will “walk that final mile” with him. No Fitting Place To Die is a heart-wrenching duet with local singer, Heather Donily, depicting a couple fighting to be together against all odds. Along with these original pieces are two revitalized songs--a rendition of the classic Tom Paxton song, The Last Thing On My Mind as well as a haunting rendition of Laser Beam, by Duluth Minnesota’s own Low.

The Tie-In to Dyin’ has been enthusiastically embraced by music lover far and wide, charting at #6 on the Folk/Roots charts for local CJSR Radio within weeks of its release. Unashamedly rooted in the Country-and-Western tradition, Tie-In is being praised by critics and fans regardless of their stylistic leanings. With all of the positive attention that The Tie-In To Dyin’ is receiving, Nathan Carroll is quickly establishing himself as a talent to be reckoned with in Edmonton and beyond--both as a songwriter and performer.
